While "jocks" may be gifted with athletic ability and given scholarships for sports-related talents, you must remember that YOU were gifted with an artistic ability that can bring you to places they lack the skill in. We all have our strengths & weaknesses, and diligent comparison will only bring us to a state of perpetual misery that will result in a never ending cycle of "why can't i have what they have?", or "why are they like X and I am like Y?".
Your father's advice is in the right place, even those at the top have those that they answer to, because we live in a symbiotic world that plays in tandem with all the various fields and classes of society. One cannot exist without the other, much like how the athletes that entertain us with sports games can't be the same people that move our hearts and spirits with a good song or movie that they wrote with their artistic skills ;)
My free time is semi-limited and allocated to different shit nowadays, but I will help you in any field of study you need.
